My husband is of Norwegian decent and we have many of the type of table runners that you posted(made by my husbands grandmother.) The spelling for that type of embroidery is Hardanger.

We also have several stranded fair isle cardigans called Lusekofte which translates to Lice Jacket. These were made by my husbands grandmother and her sister both of them were born in Norway. I never got to witness these wonderful ladies knitting but thier legacy remains.
